How did the Montevallo Junior City Council begin?

The Montevallo Junior City Council started as a response to the first David Mathews Center for Civic Life Student’s Institute, which was held in 2013 with 7th and 8th graders from Montevallo Middle School. After formulating ideas for positively impacting their community, many of the students involved sought out ways to work with the City of Montevallo to make their ideas into reality. With the help of Montevallo Mayor Dr. Hollie Cost, they started the Montevallo Junior City Council, which would go on to become an official arm of the City of Montevallo.
