Leaders Of Tomorrow Leadership Retreat

Montevallo Middle School students in the Leaders of Tomorrow Club spent two days at City Hall learning about Montevallo, city government, and how to be civically engaged. Students heard from Mayor Nix, city council members, IMPACT Montevallo, and City Clerk Gilbert. 

Students enjoyed at Montevallo scavenger hunt and then spent their time developing a project they want to see in Montevallo. At the end of the retreat they held a mock city council meeting and proposed their project. 

Welcome Back to School: You're a Star Event

The MJCC decorated the school and set up a table in the lunchroom at MHS to celebrate the first day back to school after winter break. Each student's name was on a star in the hallway and they were able to take it home at the end of the week. At lunch, students learned about the MJCC and Impact Montevallo.

2022 Shelby Humane Society Volunteering

The MJCC volunteered at the Shelby County Humane Society again in 2022.

MJCC member Anna Kate Deerman made a poster to wish Montevallo High School student good luck on their first semester exams.

Holiday Toy Drive and Window

​ The MJCC decorated a window on Montevallo Main Street and entered the window decoration contest. The MJCC won the Student Group People's Choice Award for their window design.

The MJCC also democratically chose the Montevallo High School Future Teachers window to win the Junior Mayor's Choice Award.

We are also hosting our annual toy drive for toys that will be donated to Shelby Emergency Assistance.

Fire Prevention Chalk Art Contest

The MJCC and the Montevallo Fire Department hosted a fire prevention themed chalk art contest to celebrate Montevallo's Fire Prevention Parade.

2021 Birdhouse Competition

The agriculture students at Montevallo High School built bird houses for clubs at MHS to decorate. The best three bird houses won a cash prize. Every organization did an amazing job!

Earth Day Scavenger Hunt 2021

The MJCC had a great time completing the Earth Day Team Scavenger Hunt! We found all kinds of cool artwork and had a great time enjoying Orr Park.

Social Norms and COVID-19

The MJCC held a shoe drive with Soles4Souls to collect gently worn shoes during the holiday season! 

2020 Drive-In Moonlight Movies 

The MJCC held three Drive-In Moonlight Movies in 2020 to provide an easy and safe movie night for the citizens of Montevallo! 

Montevallo Candidates 2020 Virtual Youth Forum

The MJCC held a series of forums for the candidates running for city council and mayor of Montevallo. These forums can be found on the City of Montevallo Facebook page. 

2019 Christmas Toy Drive

Artstalk 2019

The MJCC sold delicious cotton candy at the 2019 Artstalk in Montevallo to raise money to help put on events like Moonlight Movies!

Hometown Heroes Breakfast 2019

The MJCC volunteered at the 2019 Hometown Heroes Breakfast! They took people to their seats and Abigail Heuton presented education awards. 

Tingle Wood Festival 2019

The MJCC Volunteered at the 2019 Tingle Wood Festival! They helped with the kids area, counting attendance, and more! 

Moonlight Movies 

The MJCC held the first ever Moonlight Movies on June 15th, 2019. The movie was held in Owl's Cove Park and was enjoyed by many community members. The movie was free and fun for all of Montevallo.

Just Show Up Show 2019

MJCC members volunteered at the 2019 Just Show Up Show. They helped pass out bracelets that promoted the 2019 Tinglewood Festival. A few members even got to meet the stars!

Arts Fest 2019

MJCC members volunteered at the 2019 Arts Fest. They helped in lots of ways including face painting, artist hospitality, etc. They worked at different times throughout the whole event and had a lot of fun.

City Volunteering

The MJCC volunteers at many events every year in Montevallo. Some of the events include, Love Montevallo Day, The Warrior Challenge, Art Walk, Art in the Park, etc.

Color Run

In 2019, the MJCC hosted a color run at Love Montevallo Day. With help from the University of Montevallo the color run had many participants  and was very successful. 

Field day for Montevallo Middle School Baseball

In 2013, the MJCC held a city wide field day at Orr Park to raise money to purchase new baseball helmets for the Montevallo Middle School baseball team.


Montevallo Arts and Recreation Center

From 2015 to 2016 the MJCC ran a teen center for middle and high schoolers. MARC was open after school and featured various amenities including snacks, study rooms, drum circles, CPR training, etc. The teen center was run by the students for the students.


Youth Mayoral Debate​

In 2016, the MJCC held a youth mayoral debate at Montevallo High School. Question were taken from students that covered a broad range of topics.

Refresh Cards / Student I.D.'s

In 2017, the MJCC created a refresh card. The refresh card allowed high school students in Montevallo to receive discounts from 3-5 at local businesses. Below is a video from the 2017 Montevallo High School Spotlight when the refresh cards were first introduced. In 2018, the MJCC brought back the refresh card in the form of studen I.D.s. The MJCC worked with Montevallo High School and local businesses to use the new student I.D.s in place of the refresh card.
