The Montevallo Junior City Council

The Montevallo Junior City Council (MJCC) is a group of middle and high school students dedicated to strengthening Shelby County's youth by improving the arts, athletics, and the overall curriculum of Shelby County Schools through community outreach.

Congratulations to Our New Officers!

vThe MJCC elected officers for the 2022-2023 year. They will take office on May 23rd. The Junior Mayor will be Julie Smith, the Junior Mayor Pro Tempore will be Priya Atchley, and the Secretary-Treasurer will be Mary House. Congratulations!

2021-2022 Swearing In 

The members of the MJCC were sworn in on October 11th, 2021.

2021 Most Civically Engaged Member of the MJCC

Cara Nolen received the Most Civically Engaged Member of the MJCC in 2021. She worked all year to attend meetings, events, etc.

Students' Institute Showcase 2019

The MJCC attended the Students' Institute Showcase to support the Montevallo Middle School MJCC members who are part of Students' Institute with the David Mathews Center. MJCC members helped  Montevallo Elementary School students brainstorm ideas that they presented at the showcase.

CIVVY AWARD

"The CIVVYS are the first national awards program highlighting best practices in civic collaboration and collective action that put community and nation before party, ideology and narrow interests." A Commendation from the  
Alabama Legislature

In 2018 the Shelby County Legislative Delegation commended the MJCC on receiving a 2018 CIVVY Award at the national conference in Washington, D.C.

Elite Eight Day

The City of Montevallo declared May 26, 2017 Montevallo Junior City Council Elite Eight Day. The Elite Eight are the first eight members of the Junior City Council. These members include, Sam Reece, Thomas Frost, Winnie Wong, Price Alexander, Jessie Evans, Emily Tryon, Grace Stermer, and Lily Jowers.

Monumental Service Learning Conference Presentation

In 2014 the MJCC presented in Washing D.C. at the Monumental National Service Learning Conference. It was a workshop entitled Igniting the Fire; Youth Leaders to City Leadership. The people who presented include, Dr. Hollie Cost, Lauren Davis, Vinny Chiaramont, Sam Reece, Thomas Frost, Winnie Wong, Price Alexander, Jessie Evans, Emily Tryon, Grace Stermer, and Lily Jowers.
